Couldn’t find a way to directly contact you. Found your website through the Sup Com tips but realized that the main topic of the blog really resonated with me. I’m a student that aspires to eventually become a game/software designer. I made a small running demo for a platforming game in JavaFX but that’s really my only game-programming experience. I know some VB (not much of an accomplishment) and at one time knew some Java. Im taking a C++ class soon as well. I was wondering if, based on my previous experience, you could recommend a starting point for me.

Well, the starting point recommended for most people who are already learning C++ is to start off by building small games (like a pong clone) and then gradually working your way up from there (adding more complex things, trying different things). If you wish to just start seeing more results, then Unity3d is a great place to start, as one of it’s scripting languages is JavaScript, and requires some background in Java. Unity3d will help you to learn important concepts of game programming, etc. If you are interested in getting in to software, again, the same thing as written above applies: start small, and build up from there, and you can still use Unity3d for some software projects.
My own contact is at ceokryotech@gmail.com, and there is also a great community that can be really helpful at gamedev.net. Good luck!

Thanks! I tried Unity3D a while back but never got into it because my monitor had too small a resolution to comfortably navigate the windows. New monitor comes in this afternoon so maybe I’ll start soon.

I’m always glad to help! Feel free to ask any more questions if you need to. And once again, good luck!
